6th Science - Please create a story problem that requires you to determine rate of acceleration. Please write the scenario out, then show the math to find the solution. Please provide the solution and make sure you're expressing your answer in the correct units!
Remember - acceleration = final speed - initial speed / time
7th Science - Please complete your sketches of the water and carbon cycles. Don't forget to label important features and that you're not graded on your artistic skills!
8th Science - Science projects
8th Reading/L.A. - Please continue reading ATTWN up to page 38. Continue building your character list, adding details as you read. We will check your progress in class tomorrow.
8th Religion - We need to decide where we'd like Fr. Tony to celebrate mass during our D.C. trip to The Basilica. Please visit the following link to the website for The Basilica in Washington D.C. and look at all the different chapels and areas (upper and lower.) Please make a list of your top 3 choices to share in class tomorrow so we can submit a list to Fr. Tony. Some that I like:

6th Science - Find a square or rectangular object in your house and use the formula discussed in class and in the section on measuring matter to calculate the object's volume. Please remember to measure in CENTIMETERS and express your answers in the correct units! If, for some reason, you cannot measure in centimeters, please use the website here to convert from inches to centimeters. Submit a simple document explaining how you calculated the object's volume - style points for including a picture of your object!
7th Science - Consider the following scenario:
You get up extra early one morning because you're so excited to get to school! You heat up some water and make a piping hot 80°C mug of hot chocolate. The temperature in your house is 26°C. Suddenly, the news reports that Washington Local Schools have CANCELLED CLASSES for the day. NOOOOOO! As you stand there with your mouth hanging open, fighting back tears that you will not have the opportunity to go to school, you completely forget about your mug of hot chocolate. Several hours later, after cheerfully completing "blizzard bag" work, you notice your forgotten hot chocolate, which is now 26°C. Please explain, using the concepts and terms in the Thermal Energy and Heat section, what has happened to the hot chocolate and why the temperature decreased.
What happened to the hot chocolate's average kinetic energy? Where did any lost energy transfer to?
You may submit a document electronically or a paper copy when classes resume. Please be specific and thorough!
8th Science - Download the Hypothesis and Conclusion practice PDF above. Carefully consider the examples given, then do your best to complete the practice items. A separate piece of paper may be used if it's easier. This should be somewhat challenging, but don't get frustrated and use this Science Fair Project Guide for clarification and more examples of hypotheses, conclusions, etc. As always, PLEASE feel free to contact me with specific questions!
8th L.A./Reading - Read chapters 11-12 in To Kill a Mockingbird, then download/view the 2_7 document and complete the vocabulary and questions.
Religion - COMPLETE the Confirmed in the Spirit journal.
Health - Use THIS SITE to calculate your B.M.I. (Body Mass Index.) Review your personal results, then respond to the following:

6th Grade - Download, print, and complete PDF on measuring Matter. Does NOT need to be printed in color! File is located at the top of this page.
7th Grade - Download, print, and complete PDF on Thermal Energy. Does NOT need to be printed in color! File is located at the top of this page.
8th Grade Science - Download and complete the Project Proposal Form above to the best of your ability. Don't be concerned with the due date right now, we will take as much time as is needed. Restrictions are common sense: no weapons, dangerous chemicals, live animals, etc. When in doubt, PLEASE email me. Additionally, students may download and begin to organize their information using the "Science Planning Packet" file above. Again, we will be going over the projects step-by-step in class, but these may help jump start things.
